Strategic engagement planning
What does effective public engagement with science look like? How do you build a plan to support such engagement? How can scientists build trust with the communities they are hoping to engage? The resources shared here can get you started. This work began with an initiative funded by the Kavli Foundation and has continued through the NSF-funded APEAL project.
Our Approach to Strategic Engagement Planning
There are lots of ways to create a strategic engagement plan. Our preferred approach starts with learning together, moves through an enactment phase, and then turns things over to you. Maybe you’ve already got a strategic plan, but don’t have support to put it into action. We have ideas about that too.
SCRREE Framework for Public Engagement with Science
The Practice Briefs below focus on each of the six aspects of the SCRREE Framework, which articulates elements of effective engagement. SCRREE was developed by Sarah Garlick and John Besley, with support from the Catalyst team and a whole host of others. The Practice Briefs themselves include contributions from the LTER Network to share each element in action.
Guides for Building Trust
The checklists in this section were created in partnership with, and based on the thought leadership of John Besley and The Strategic Science Communication Project. Each provides a list of ideas for how to build trust in authentic and concrete ways.
